Heena Kim, 김현화

b. 1979, South Korea
lives and works in London

Heena Kim’s practice involves being playful with concepts of subjectivity surrounding a range of ideas informed by the world around her. These subjects concerning memories are reenacted through a constructed narrative based on her learned assumptions instead of didactic facts. She uses an omnipresent idea existing in her mind, something always happening behind our sight. And this notion is the jumping point for the work to highlight connections between those disruptive moments and conflicts that are a constant event in life; be it relationships, society or culture. The focus is about making an opposition to this dominate paradigm, while expressing an inventive consideration for those moments between authenticity and imagination.
